About Rare Surfs New England, Horseneck Beach, MA — September 13, 2026

In 2019, Waves for Change initiated a surf therapy event in North Carolina for families faced with a diagnosis of a rare disease. We worked with Global Genes to promote the event and to support families in this journey. With years of experience supporting surf therapy events for various populations, we are excited to work with our New England partners and sponsors to create a day for our Rare Surfers. For 2026, we have our event planned in New England for September 13th in collaboration with our friends at Gnome Surf Therapy. Global Genes, CureDuchenne and Live Fearlessly Foundation are supporting our event with their patient advocacy network and Scout will once again work with families on logistics to ensure everyone has what they need to participate. You do not need to have experience with surfing or the ocean to participate as our local partner, Gnome Surf, is experienced taking individuals of all abilities out in the water with adaptive equipment. We are excited to facilitate this beach day for families dealing with challenges from a loved one with a rare disease or similar diagnosis.

Rare Surfs – Sunday, September 13th
Setup and Volunteers Check in – 9:00 AM
Surfer/Participant Check in – 9:15 AM
Opening Remarks – 9:45 AM
Surf – 10 – 1 PM
Lunch/Social at the beach – 1:15 PM

Gnome Surf and Waves for Change will have tents up on the beach directly off the boardwalk.
